GTA VI’s world is being built around both scale and density. In an interview with Flow Games, Rob Nelson said the game combines a large map with a high number of interiors that players can enter.

That approach also extends vertically. Nelson said many of the game’s buildings have lobbies and ways to reach their rooftops, suggesting that some locations are designed to be explored beyond their exterior façades. The comments describe accessibility as a central part of the game world, although they do not specify how many buildings will be enterable or how every interior will function.

A phone tied to progression

Nelson also discussed the phone used by the game’s protagonists. He said the phone is now more directly associated with Jason or Lucia, with each character having their own apps. The device will update as the story progresses, making it part of the changing experience rather than a static interface.

These details fit with other elements Nelson described to Flow Games. Jason and Lucia can split up during a pursuit, which lowers the wanted level by one star, and they fight in different ways. Their relationship is also described as a shared attribute. Elsewhere, Nelson said a character can gain weight by eating a lot, while players can take a supercar seen on a Vice Beach street at any point in the game. He also mentioned underwater wrecks and treasures to find.

The interview establishes the direction of these systems, but it does not provide a complete list of enterable buildings, phone apps, or underwater activities. For now, the confirmed picture is of a large GTA VI world with substantial interior access and a phone that changes alongside the story.
